High stakes by Meg Cabot
High Stakes Book Review

In the second book of the ‘Mediator Series’, Susannah Simon is back with yet another creepy encounter with a spirit - who has a message for her. Well, like it or not, Susannah must deliver the message to the right person and send the spirit to its afterlife.

And let’s not forget, a steaming, hot, guy - Tad, who asks her out. However, her dating life takes a turn when Father Dominic suggests that Tad's dad - Mr. Beaumont may be a vampire.

What I Liked About this Book:

  1. Action scene of Susannah with the two thugs

  2. The way Jesse appears to rescue Susannah in the end.

  3. Hilarious incidents with the cat

What I Disliked About this Book:

  1. The plot twist was quite evident.

  2. Susannah didn’t go out with Tad anymore.

  3. The role of Aunt Pru could’ve been a bit more mysterious.

What I Would Change:

Tad is a real vampire and he has hiding spots at the Beaumont Industries locations to bury the bodies. Susannah finds it through a spirit who was Tad’s victim - a teenager at Tad’s school. A chapter on how Tad becomes a vampire (a psychological condition called Renfield's syndrome).

In the climax, instead of Marcus, Tad is taken down by Susannah. Marcus’s plans are revealed and he is arrested for doping Tad’s dad.

When Mr. Beaumont regains his delulu state, he sends Tad to San Francisco, where Tad's aunt will help him to recover. The rest of the bits and pieces remain the same.
